Index Exacta data
Explanation:
“To 4”: This means – including to the 4th in odds – i.e. putting a win qualifier on top of next 3 lowest odds horses in the race. If the win qualifier is itself one of the lowest 4 odds horses in the race – it would be part-wheeled to the next 3 – for 3 exacta combinations. Assuming 2 win qualifiers, both among the low 4 odds – then you would have 6 combinations total.
Example: 8th race at Tampa on Feb 21st. There were 9 starters. The odds low to high were;
4-5 / 9-2 / 6-1 / 7-1 / 7-1 / 12-1 / 27-1 / 36-1 / 41-1
The Index (table below) had only one qualifier, #5 Race Day Speed – as Grimhilde went off too low to bet for win. If playing the “to 4” – and since it is among the low 4, it would be on top to; Grimhilde, Blazing Miss, and General Ginny for 3 combinations ($3.00 if $1 tickets).
If you were playing the “to 5” you would add one more – Crystal Sky for 4 combinations. And if you were playng the “to 6” – the Index horse, Clap For Me ,would be added at 12-1 (for 5 combinations).
Race Day Speed won and paid $11.80 – an the exacta to the favorite, Grimhilde, paid $13.60 for the $1 ticket.
